Hello all, we are in the midst of lambing season with a barn full of adorable baby lambs. We have thirty lambs and six ewes left to have their lambs. It has been a good and bad year, ups and downs but I'd say that's being a farmer for you. Sometimes I wonder what I would do with all my time if I weren't growing up on a farm. It makes me a little sad to think that lots of kids and teens have never held a baby lamb in their arms, never seen a lamb born, or baled hay under the hot summer sun. Never spent their Saturdays cutting and stacking firewood or watching a lamb become a sheep and then become a mother and give birth to the next show lamb that you will take to the county fair. Sometimes it is not so enjoyable. Sometimes when I am cold, tired, wet and hungry I wish I were hanging out with friends. Doing craft projects, or sketching, baking an apple pie or trying a new recipe for supper. Maybe having a big cup of hot tea with a book in my lap and then taking a nap. It is all worth it though. This does make me treasurer my free time. I learn so many things and it is a truly wonderful experience and life style. A simply life style but beautiful and full of richness. I am incredible blessed. with love, Emma Katherine |
